Anadigics Inc. has expanded its mobile 4G power amplifier (PA) family with the roll out of the AWM6268. The WiMAX/LTE PA increases output power to deliver greater range and throughput in the 2.5-2.7GHz frequency band. Anadigics added that the 4G PAs are optimized for high-data-rate broadband wireless devices such as smartphones, notebooks, netbooks, data cards and WiFi hotspots.

"While LTE technology continues to gain traction, mobile broadband system operators around the world continue to deploy and expand WiMAX networks, offering new WiMAX-enabled devices to support the rapidly increasing demand for wireless data," noted Glenn Eswein, director of product marketing for broadband RF products at Anadigics.

The AWM6268 claims to deliver greater range in the 2.5-2.7GHz band.

"As 4G applications evolve, it is becoming more evident that the performance of the PA affects network performance and the user experience directly," stated Joe Cozzarelli, senior director of broadband RF products at Anadigics. "The new AWM6268 power amplifier enables a wider range of these applications by delivering enhanced linear output power and efficiency."

In WiMAX applications, the PA provides what is claimed to be best-in-class linearity of 2.5 percent error vector magnitude (EVM) and high power-added efficiency (PAE) of 25 percent at 26dBm output power to help maintain battery-life under demanding, data-intensive usage. In LTE applications, the PA delivers 33 percent power-added efficiency at 28dBm output power. The AWM6268 meets WiMAX spectrum emissions mask limits at 26dBm output power and UTRA adjacent channel power limits at 28dBm output power.

The RoHS compliant AWM6268 operates at 3-4.2V supply voltage and uses a 4 x 4 x 1mm package footprint, a pin-out and controls that are compatible with the earlier AWT6264 PA.

Anadigics' family of 4G PAs is manufactured using the firm's InGaP HBT MMIC technology that claims to offer reliability, temperature stability and ruggedness.

Samples of Anadigics' WiMAX power amplifiers are available .
