Aptina Imaging Corp. has released a 3.1MP surveillance image sensor that according to the company was created to meet the needs of the growing full HD video-centric surveillance market. The AR0331 touts a 2.2? pixel sensor featuring Aptina A-Pix technology. The company added that the sensor targets the mainstream 1/3in optical format surveillance camera market and offers a wide dynamic range (WDR) capability and built-in adaptive local tone mapping.

The AR0331 provides HD video up to 1080p at 60fps, using advanced binning techniques to enable the sensor's sub 1-lux low light performance. The image sensor's low light and dynamic range capabilities enable a surveillance camera to capture HD video in the most challenging environments, noted Aptina.

Aptina A-Pix is a series of advanced pixel technologies that feature lightguide, deep photodiode and 65nm pixel design rules that cost-effectively advance pixel performance. It claims to enhance quantum efficiency and minimizes crosstalk to capture sharp images with vibrant colors, even in the low-light conditions.
