Sharp builds Indonesia factory

Anticipating the growing demand for consumer household appliances, PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia, is building a $128.16 million factory in Jakarta next year and will start operations in 2013.

This year, Sharp had received growing demand refrigerators and washing machine units. The demand is expected to continue growing over the next 10 years due to the promising economic environment in Indonesia. The new factory will ramp up production of not only the company's refrigerators and washing machines but its other electronic household appliances as well, said Nikkan Kougyou in a report by

Sharp is also planning to move its production of LCD TVs from its Pulo Gadung factory in East Jakarta to the new factory.
