Xilinx's impact in Asia today
Xilinx is a well-established player in Asia, having made significant investments in Singapore, India and China in close proximity to our customer base. Our Asia-Pacific headquarters in Singapore is the center of action for our global supply chain. Hyderabad, India is home to our second largest R&D site outside of the U.S. Regional technical support centers are located in Shanghai, China and Hyderabad, India.

Xilinx is best known today as a supplier of FPGAs to the region's leading communications infrastructure equipment companies. For example, Virtex-6 and Spartan-6 wireless solutions have played a key role in enabling carriers to deploy the largest 3G network in a record-setting pace in China and India. Engineers are currently working on the next-generation wireless towers using 7 series devices that combine CPRI connectivity with radio signal processing on the same device. This enables the deployment of remote radio heads that consume up to 50 percent less power with up to 50 percent lower cost than current FPGA generations.

Our flagship products also underpin today's most advanced electronics in a variety of other high-growth market segments in Asia (e.g., industrial, scientific, medical). For example, Xilinx devices are also helping to fuel the growth of the portable color ultrasound market to modernize rural hospitals and clinics. Our new ARM-based Zynq devices combine the capabilities of a standard DSP and two FPGAs into a single device, which will enable medical equipment makers in Asia to hit the price point and power required to proliferate these life-saving instruments.

Xilinx programmable platforms are also used in smart high-definition surveillance systems in a variety of public venues, including airports, shopping malls and highways. Our Spartan-based video analytics solution is at the heart of an intelligent traffic systems made up of thousands of surveillance cameras installed on the nation's highways in China.

We find ourselves at an exciting crossroads in Asia. The convergence of several long-term economic, market and technological trends are driving demand for a new class of devices that combine the capacity and customizability of ASICs, flexibility of FPGAs and cost effectiveness of ASSPs.

Xilinx is stepping up to meet this need with new 28nm devices that take full advantage of breakthrough "programmable systems integration" technology to enable design engineers to build better systems with fewer chips, faster. In 2012 and beyond, Xilinx new 28nm programmable platforms hold the promise of accelerating Asia's transformation into a global hub for R&D, serving as a centerpiece for engineering innovation and differentiation for domestic and multinational companies to meet both local and global demand for electronic products.
