Analyst: Global mobile subscribers topped 6.1B

Keywords:cellular? mobile broadband? network subscriptions? has released the details of its report about global cellular network subscriptions last year. According to the analyst, global mobile penetration levels reached 87 percent last year, with 6.1 billion global cellular network subscriptions.

The report stated that China Mobile is the leading operator in the market with more than 650 million subscriptions. Indian operators Bharti, Vodafone, Reliance, Idea Cellular, BSNL, etc. boast a large market share with more than 928 million subscriptions.

Mobile broadband has also seen considerable growth with 3.5G HSPA subscriptions reaching 566 million, EV-DO subscriptions reaching 272 million and 4G LTE subscriptions reaching 6.4 million. While LTE subscriptions constitute only 0.1 percent of the market, it is expected to grow in the next five years to take more than eight percent of the market in 2016. U.S. operator Verizon Wireless and Japanese operator NTT DoCoMo are leading the LTE market with market shares of 63 percent and 22 percent, respectively, driven by their early adoption of LTE technology.
