Modulator driver targets 40G, 100G apps

GigOptix Inc. has begun sampling its 28Gb/s Mach Zehnder Modulator (MZM) driver geared for 40G and 100G metro and long-haul optical transmitters. According to the company, the GX6262 enables customers to implement more compact and efficient transponder solutions.

The modulator driver features low RMS jitter degradation and data rate up to 28Gb/s for 40G DQPSK and 100G DP-PSK. The GX6262 also offers adjustable eye cross point and power consumption of 2.7W at Vout=7Vpp.

"We developed the GX6262 in close collaboration with our Tier 1 customers to be fully compliant with their specific requirements to ensure that their DQPSK transponders would be successful products," said Andrea Betti-Berutto, CTO of GigOptix. "The competitor product burns more power than our GX6262, it requires more real estate on the print circuit board, and is not as cost effective as the GX6262 solution. Since each 40G DQPSK transponder requires two GX6262 drivers these advantages are compounded."

Samples of the GX6262 are available for evaluation with an evaluation board.
