Economic uncertainty provides GSD adoption opportunities

Global competition and rapidly changing technology create pressure on companies developing competitive products. To get ahead of these disruptive forces, they need tools that help them abstract increasing complexity and harness the power of technological evolution to your advantage.

Graphical system design (GSD), using an open platform of productive software and reconfigurable hardware, shortens the integration cycle for new technology and functionality. One can visualize and implement systems faster because the platform makes technology easier to access through intuitive interfaces to accelerate the design, prototyping, and deployment of their system.

LabVIEW and NI deployment targets

LabVIEW and NI deployment targets make it possible for a single system platform approach to accelerate the development of any system that needs measurement and control.

National Instruments Corp. (NI) recovered strongly in 2010, and the 2011 results, at the time of writing continue to trend toward a record year. However, the weakening market sentiment for 2012 will have some impact on our growth.

We see some interesting trends that we believe will help NI increase market share in Southeast Asia. The semiconductor industry is coming off a record high in the past year and a half. There is now a concerted effort by the semiconductor industry to reduce their cost of test. Currently many of the lower cost semiconductor devices like sensors, MEMs devices and others are seeing rapid growth. However the prices of these devices are facing tremendous downward pressure, resulting in semiconductor companies having to rethink their current test strategy of using high cost automated test equipment (ATE). This is resulting in a strong adoption of modular instrumentation and LabVIEW adoption. We expect the adoption of PXI and LabVIEW in the semiconductor industry to accelerate in 2012.

Another trend that we expect to gather momentum is the need for rapid prototyping platforms in a variety of industries. In Southeast Asia, we expect the machine makers to adopt rapid prototyping platforms based on graphical systems design to differentiate their capabilities from their competitors to develop new machines required for applications such as LED Displays, semiconductor handlers, and laser trimming machines.
