Computer-on-module for embedded fanless apps

Strategic Test AB has introduced a computer-on-module that is aimed at embedded fanless applications. The TX-28S features a 454MHz i.MX283 processor coupled with 64MB DDR SDRAM, 128MB NAND flash memory and a 200-pin SODIMM connector.

The TX-28S is pin compatible with all Strategic Test's existing Freescale processor-based modules that use the i.MX257, i.MX27, i.MX287, i.MX515, i.MX535 and i.MX537. This approach has the advantage of providing the developer with the potential for creating scalable systems, noted the company. All modules can be supplied with the Development Kit-5 hardware reference platform that runs both Linux and Microsoft Windows Embedded CE 6.0.


The TX-28S features 10/100Mb/s Ethernet.

The device features 10/100Mb/s Ethernet, two high-speed USB 2.0 ports, true color LCD controller and 4/5 wire touchscreen interface. It also offers UART, SD-Card, I2C, PWM, Serial Audio and SPI, and boasts power management features optimized for long battery life. Additionally, the computer-on-module supports 3.3V I/O and comes with an i.MX28 battery charger. The product measures 68 x 25 mm and has the Freescale Longevity program that guarantees a long-term availability of seven years.

The Development Kit-5 touts socket for TX-28S/TX25/TX27/TX51/TX53 and has all pins from SODIMM brought out to header connectors. It contains UCB1400 CODEC, touchscreen controller and two SD card sockets. The kit supports VGA via D-SUB 15-pin connector and LCD 40-pin header. Moreover, it offers a JTAG interface and operates at 5V from USB or via screw terminal.

The TX28S module is priced at $49 for 10k quantities, while the Development Kit-5 is priced at $999.
