Stackpole Electronics Inc. has uncloaked a series of metal film resistors that according to the company is engineered for existing designs that require downsizing or added features. The RNS 1W and RNS 2W have EIA standard 1/4W and 1/2W body sizes, respectively.

The company said the devices are suitable for designs that require the smallest form factor possible for a given power rating. The RNS is able to achieve this high power handling performance through tight manufacturing control of a unique power film alloy.

RNS Series

The RNS series claims to achieve high power handling performance.

The standard flameproof silicone coating enhances its usefulness at high power levels. In addition, the RNS series is capable of precision tolerances down to 0.5 percent and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) as low as 25ppm.

The RNS series can be used in home appliances, solid state power supplies, instrumentation, safety equipment, welding systems, robotics, and industrial power and control applications where an axial leaded resistor robust performance under harsh environmental conditions is desired, noted Stackpole. Pricing will vary depending on size, tolerance and TCR, and ranges from $0.015 to $0.045 each in full reel quantities.
