The device is based on a high-frequency synchronous step-down DC/DC converter optimized for battery-powered portable applications. The MicroSiP DC/DC converter operates at a regulated 5.5MHz switching frequency and enters the power-save mode operation at light load currents to maintain high efficiency over the entire load current range, noted TI.
The PFM mode extends the battery life by reducing the quiescent current to 17?A (typ) during light load operation. TI said the device can be used in mobile phones, digital TVs, WLAN, GPS, POL and Bluetooth applications.
The device claims to offer 90 percent efficiency at 5.5MHz and a VIN range from 2.3-4.8V. It offers spread spectrum and PWM frequency dithering, as well as 2 percent total DC voltage accuracy. The TPS8267x also features ?35dB VIN PSRR (1-10kHz).
TI said the device has an internal soft start, 120?s startup time, optional integrated active power-down sequencing, and current overload and thermal shutdown protection. Moreover, the product offered is in a sub-1mm profile with total solution size measuring 2.
