Graphics card breaks 1GHz barrier

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) has launched what it believes is the world's first 1GHz GPU. According to the company, the AMD Radeon HD 7770GHz Edition is the first graphics card equipped with a reference engine clock that breaks the 1GHz barrier.

When coupled with AMD's GCN architecture, the AMD Radeon HD 7770GHz Edition offers what is describes as a best-in-class entertainment experiences for users. The AMD Radeon HD 7750 doesn't require its own separate power connector and provides exceptional gaming experiences under 75W, the company added.

AMD Radeon HD 7700

The GPU features PCIe 3.0 and AMD ZeroCore Power.

The AMD Radeon HD 7700 series is armed and ready to follow its 28nm predecessors by targeting gamers. It features AMD's Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture for spectacular performance and efficiency, and comes equipped with leading-edge technology such as PCI Express 3.0, AMD ZeroCore Power, PowerTune, AMD Eyefinity 2.0 and AMD App technologies, detailed the company.

The graphics cards are available via retailers and e-tailers worldwide, with select models of the AMD Radeon HD 7770GHz Edition 1GB starting at $159, and the AMD Radeon HD 7750 1GB starting at $109.
