Connect One Ltd has rolled out a miniature WiFi module that according to the company brings wireless connectivity to consumer devices not originally intended to support wireless functionality. The Nano WiReach USB features an integrated CPU and memory that manage the WLAN functions on module. As a result, the device boasts robust, high-speed, 802.11n-compliant wireless LAN for home gateways, STBs, gaming consoles, printers and medical devices, among other.

With Nano WiReach USB's claims to deliver PHY rates of up to 150Mb/s. The product offers autonomous and seamless operation that supports features designed to boost performance. This includes internal diversity switch that selects antenna 1 or 2 for baseband signal processing as well as unparalleled WPA2 security with WEP, TKIP and AES encryption in hardware, said Connect One.

Nano WiReach USB comes with full developer support. It has a full driver support package for Linux, Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP, enabling complete compatibility and flexibility for the product designer. It is fully compliant with IEEE 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11d, 802.11e, 802.11i and 802.11n. With very simple integration via a 4-pin header for the USB interface, this module cuts months off the design cycle of a wireless product, indicated the company.

The WiFi module operates from 0C to 70C, is RoHS compliant, and measures 3 x 1.5 x 8.8cm.

Nano WiReach USB will be available in April this year for production of under $10 per unit. The II-EVB-410 evaluation board, priced at $160, provides an easy environment for developing applications and testing Nano WiReach USB.
