Sharp builds Indonesian plant

Sharp Corp. has announced that its production and sales subsidiary in Jakarta, Indonesia, PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia (SEID), is expanding its production capacity for refrigerators and washing machines.

The new production facility will be built in Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC) in Karawang, West Java Province. The company is investing around $133.26 million in the facility, which is scheduled to start its operations by 2013.

"Domestic consumption has been growing steadily in the Indonesian market in concert with economic development, and further market expansion is expected in the future," the company said in a statement.

With the construction of this new plant, Sharp will expand production capacity for refrigerators and washing machines, and will work to grow its business in the Indonesian market and further enhance the Sharp brand image, the company added.
