Aptina Imaging Corp. has released an image sensor boasting 1/3in optical format HD (720p/60fps) offering mainstream surveillance cameras with low light (zero lux) performance with its 3.75? near infrared (NIR) detecting pixel. For day/night NIR applications, the AR0130CS' increased sensitivity reduces LED illumination requirements resulting in camera BOM savings, the company stated.

The AR0130CS image sensor provides video centric applications with exemplary image capture using Aptina DR-Pix technology, boasted the company. The sensor includes sophisticated camera functions such as auto exposure control, windowing, and both video and single frame capture. Additionally, the sensor is programmable via serial interface and offers a parallel interface for compatibility with a variety of image processors. Applications requiring day/night image capture will benefit from the AR0130CS's NIR performance that is enhanced in the 850-900nm wavelength range.

Aptina DR-Pix technology combines two modes of operation in one pixel designlow conversion gain mode for large charge handling capacity in bright scenes and a high conversion gain mode with increased sensitivity and low read noise for low-light scenes. The result is a sensor that offers the best possible noise performance over all ISO speed conditions, Aptina indicated.

Aptina's AR0130CS is in mass production, available in a 10 x 10mm, 48-pin, iLCC package.
