Linear Technology Corp. has uncloaked a 2.5-36V two input voltage monitor that according to the company draws only 850nA of quiescent current. This allows for extended battery life in battery-powered applications, noted the company. The LTC2960 provides two adjustable monitoring inputs that can be configured to provide undervoltage (UV) or overvoltage (OV) monitoring, low battery indication, undervoltage lockout (UVLO), power supply sequencing signals or a high voltage window comparator for microprocessor, DC/DC switcher or LDO based systems.

According to the company, the LTC2960 is ideal for multiple Li+ coin cells, AAs, AAAs and other compact battery-powered or "green" applications. The 1.5 percent accurate reset, UV and OV monitoring thresholds are easy to configure with external resistors. When used as a supervisor, a manual reset input is available for optional use of a pushbutton switch to force a system reset, described Linear Tech.

The LTC2960-1 and LTC2960-3 provide two independent UV monitors, while the LTC2960-2 and LTC2960-4 provide one UV and one OV monitor. Ordering options include selectable 15ms or 200ms reset timeout period, output logic supply pin, or choice of active pull-up or 36V open-drain output for maximum application flexibility.

The LTC2960 is available today in commercial, industrial and automotive versions, with operating temperature ranges from 0C to 70C, -40C to 85C, and -40C to 125C, respectively. All devices can be ordered in either 8-pin 2 x 2mm DFN or 8-lead ThinSOT packages, both of which are RoHS compliant. Pricing starts at $1.71 each in 1,000 piece quantities.
