Molex Inc. has highlighted its interconnect solutions for the solid state lighting market through a partnership with anyCOMM, a developer of solid-state lighting and embedded software solutions. The companies are working together to develop products for comprehensive monitoring, control and automation of lighting and other electronic functions in residential and commercial environments.

Molex products include solderless array holders designed to allow light fixture manufacturers to create an electrical connection between an LED array and a power source. Dual wire trap compression contacts power arrays while cutting the need for hand soldering or expensive SMT equipment.

Molex is also developing a solid-state lighting product that will integrate the light source, electronics, optics and thermal management into a 50mm diameter, 10mm high disk using molded interconnect device (MID) technology. This universal light source will be capable of being "dropped" into a PAR bulb, A19 bulb, downlight or a variety of other light sources currently under development. It will be powered directly from line voltage and be equivalent to a 75W light bulb.

Microminiature connectorsMolex also showcased Pico-EZmate and PicoBlade families of wire-to-board connectors. The 1.2mm pitch Pico-EZmate connectors offer a mated height of 1.55mm for 2- to 5-circuit and 1.65mm for 6-circuit versions for miniature wire-to-board applications. And the the 1.25mm pitch PicoBlade system is designed for high-density harness applications, providing 1A of current provded by 2mm pitch systems. Another microminiature connector line from the company is the CLIK-Mate wire-to-board connectors with a tuning-fork terminal for low-insertion force and secure mating contact. This is suited for applications that require higher pin count connectors to carry more signal lines in less space. And the 0.4mm profile ultra-narrow-width SlimStack board-to board connectors come in various stack heights for space savings and design flexibility in tight packaging applications.

Industrial lightingMolex Woodhead line of products for industrial lighting offer portable, safe, code-compliant lighting for rugged and harsh applications such as natural gas service utility locations, refineries, shipyards, fuel oil loading docks and petrochemical plants.

The company is also preparing to introduce several new LED options in its portable lighting product line, The first line is the Wide Area Portable Work Light for Hazardous Locations (Class I, Div. 2), featuring four 25W LED arrays at 4100K color temperature. This light provides an instant-on, high-output, extremely rugged light source with precise color rendering and over 50,000 hours of life.

Similarly, the Wide Area Portable Flood Light for Hazardous Locations (Class I, Div. 1) features four, 25W LED arrays at 4100K color temperature to provides instant-on, high-output, extremely rugged and long-life light source. Plus, it provides over 30 percent more Ft-candles output than 300W quartz halogen lamps.
