Sierraware has released an open source implementation for ARM TrustZone security technology. The Open Virtualization software development kit enables ARM-based microprocessor designers, device manufacturers, and software companies to support ARM TrustZone with a free, open source tool.

Using TrustZone hardware security extensions, designers can build security into embedded devices in a system-wide manner. It lets data and applications run in a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), protected from potentially dangerous third party software. It is suited for secure payment, authentication, encryption key storage, digital rights management (DRM), license management, and more. With TrustZone, data is safe from malware and rootkits that can compromise critical data.

Open Virtualization is a free, open source SDK available under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It adheres to technical specifications set forth by GlobalPlatform. Any ARM-based device that supports ARM TrustZone technology, including ARM-11, Cortex-A9, and Cortex-A15 systems, can benefit from Open Virtualization code. It features a small footprint that minimizes memory and system overhead.

The Open Virtualization source code is available now for download.
