Kontron has introduced the CP6004-SA 6U CompactPCI processor board. Said to set new performance-per-watt standards for high-end applications, the board is based on the Intel QM77 Express Chipset and scalable up to the quad-core 3rd generation Intel Core i7-3615QE processor with 4 x 2.3GHz (3.3GHz in Turbo mode).

The boards claim to provide up to 20 percent enhanced computing power and increased performance per watt compared to designs based on the 2nd generation Intel Core processors. Also, it integrates HD 4000 graphics and supports DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1, AVX and OpenCL 1.1, letting developers use the latest APIs to speed the development of their applications.

The power-optimized Kontron 6U CompactPCI processor board CP6004-SA is designed for high density, thermally constrained CompactPCI systems that need to perform in a typical 60QW or less power envelope. It is scalable with four processors from low-power dual-core variants up to extremely powerful quad-core technology to meet all individual mission profiles and delivers outstanding data throughput and enables out-of-band communication through an Intelligent Platform Management Interface. It meets the highest standards for system management and information of high-availability applications. Data protection is secured by the optional onboard Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2). This makes the robust Kontron CP6004-SA suitable for markets such as military, medical and highly sensitive security-related telecom and datacom applications. Bandwidth intensive image processing, multimedia and test and measurement applications will also benefit from the 6MB cache and up to 16GB of 1600MHz DDR3 ECC SO-DIMM memory. The Kontron CP6004-SA supports a configurable 64bit/66MHz PCI or PCI-X, hot swap CompactPCI interface.

For maximum application flexibility the Kontron 6U CompactPCI processor board CP6004-SA offers a comprehensive range of interfaces: 6x SATA ports with RAID 0/1/5 functionality for enhanced data security, 6 x USB 2.0 ports, 2 x RS232 ports, three independent graphics interfaces (1x VGA, 2x DVI/HDMI) and High Definition Audio (HDA) interfaces as well as 5 x Gigabit Ethernet connected via PCI Express to meet the high performance requirements of communications applications. One SATA 6Gb/s port can be used for an onboard 2.5-inch SSD, HDD or an up to 32GB large Flash-SATA module that can be integrated to hold complete operating systems and application code which substantially increases overall system speed and availability, supported by the optional write protection feature. An XMC socket (via PCI Express x8) or PMC socket for mezzanine cards ensure plenty of room for custom expansions, like the dual 10GbE network interface cards from Kontron.

The Kontron 6U CompactPCI processor board CP6004-SA runs with Linux (Fedora, RedHat, Windriver), VxWorks (6.9 and later), Microsoft Windows 7, Windows XP, XP embedded or Windows Server 2008-R2.

Samples of the Kontron CP6004-SA are available in July. Full production starts in Q3 12 with an availability until 2019.
