Analog IC designer and maker AMS AG has rolled the AS3421 and AS3422. The devices are single chip active noise cancellation (ANC) solutions with integrated speaker driver ICs designed for

Bluetooth headsets, headphones and earpieces.

Wireless headsets may be linked over the air to mobile phones, portable media players and other devices. However, these are often used in cars, airplanes, office buildings and other noisy public places. ANC aims to reduce the perceived volume of external noise, enabling the desired receive-path audio signal to be heard against a nearly silent background.

According to AMS, users of headsets with ANC can ear speech more clearly on voice calls and benefit from improved intelligibility; enjoy the full dynamic and frequency range of reproduced music at a comfortable playback volume; and concentrate for a longer time and benefit from a less tiring and stressful listening experience.

The AS3421 and AS3422 single-chip ANC solutions process external noise that is sensed by a microphone embedded in the headset. They generate a noise canceling signal, at the same time amplifying the desired audio signal with very low levels of distortion.

The devices draw just 7mA of power at 1.5V in stereo ANC mode, and The devices also offer fully differential stereo line inputs to match the differential line outputs from typical Bluetooth-based headset SoCs, combining audio quality with noise reduction of typically more than 25dB.

Sampling now, the AS3421 is housed in a 4 x 4mm QFN24 package, and the AS3422 in a 5 x 5mm QFN32 package. They are available for 1,000-piece quantity orders.
