Ultracapacitor module for small form factor designs

Ioxus Inc. has announced its thin cell ultracapacitor module designs for power conditioning and automated guided vehicle (AGV) applications. The THiNCAP iMOD modules consist of high power, thin, flexible ultracapacitor packs, instead of cylindrical cells, making them ideal for applications where small form factor is needed, noted the company.

The THiNCAP iMOD modules save space and weight, benefiting users with a reduced total cost of ownership as compared to batteries with longer life, higher cycle count, wider operational temperature range and reduced maintenance requirements, added Ioxus.

With smaller footprint designs, the THiNCAP iMOD modules allow for flexible product development across a wide variety of markets. They target power conditioning and voltage sag compenzation in short-term uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) to protect against voltage disruptions and ensure a smooth power supply to factory equipment and mission-critical applications. These applications can include telecommunications, silicon and food production, renewable energy, hospitals and pharmaceuticals. Additionally, AGVs and robotics benefit from the quick charge and long life of the Ioxus THiNCAP iMOD modules, cutting charge times in half and increasing productivity and operating time while eliminating the need for battery replacement or charging.

The THiNCAP iMOD modules improve complete systems with a lower total cost of ownership and more efficient design, while reducing system complexity, boasted the company. The cell design can also reduce cooling requirements as it allows for heat mitigation through double-sided cooling. Ioxus customers use the THiNCAP iMOD modules for numerous applications such as power conditioning, copy machines, peak power shaving systems and more.

The THiNCAP iMOD modules for AGV applications feature quick charge and long life that claim to increase productivity and reduce operation costs. They also tout a complete system, including DC/DC, and are RoHS-compliant.

The THiNCAP iMOD modules for power conditioning applications feature low equivalent series resistance (ESR) for higher efficiency and power capabilities, and are engineered to replace or enhance common rack mount battery systems. The RoHS-compliant devices boast size compatibility for all common rack enclosures, including 19in, 23in wide and greater than 20in in depth. Ioxus also flaunts the highest possible energy content per shelf for a capacitor-based system with up to 40kW (10s) per 4U rack slot, providing up to 101 percent more energy than competing products, added the company.
