According to Digitimes, Taiwan-based panel makers are optimistic about increased revenues in Q3. The Taiwan newspaper added that this is a result of the traditional busy season for consumer electronics purchasing.

In July, Taiwan-based panel makers such as Chimei Innolux (CMI), Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) and Hannstar Display all reported about 10 percent growth in revenues. Sources said the makers are continuing to see increased orders with small- and medium-sized panel shipments for August and expect those shipments to increase throughout Q3.

CMI reported a 12.6 percent on-month increase with the panels in July and expects that number to increase as it is receiving large orders from major makers as well as increasing its production capacity to somewhere between 90-95 percent, said sources.

Additionally, CPT reported a 27.8 percent on-month increase with small- and medium-sized panel shipments in July largely due to the rising popularity with the Nexus 7.

Out of all the major panel makers in Taiwan, AU Optronics (AUO), however, was the only one to report a decline in revenue during July over June. But sources said that is mainly due to an earthquake in Taiwan that caused one of its plants to stop operations for five days and that AUO has taken the necessary steps to regain its production.

Sources also said that large-sized panel shipments are on the decline due to consumers investing more in mobile products such as smartphones and tablets, but that they are expected to increase as makers are putting out new panels sized at 39in and 50in to help TV vendors stay competitive in the market.
