Omron Corp. has introduced what it claims as the world's smallest and lightest high capacity DC power relay. The G9EN DC power relay is 50 percent smaller and lighter than the company's previous comparable relays that according to Omron is the result of newly developed proprietary sealing technologies and magnetic control methods.

Geared for environmentally-friendly clean energy vehicles such as hybrid and fuel-cell cars, the G9EN DC power relay boasts a 28 40 50mm footprint and weight of 140g. It also features a non-polarized contact circuit (contact terminal) that contributes not only to device downsizing and weight-reduction, but also makes wiring and mounting much simpler, noted Omron.

The device can be used in main and pre-charge relays for vehicles with high voltage batteries such as hybrid and electric vehicles; chargers, feeders and accessories for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid cars; feeder circuits and condensers for fuel cell cogeneration systems and solar power systems; and industrial equipment such as elevators, industrial robots and testing devices.
