Fujitsu Semiconductor Ltd. has recently announced the closure of one of its semiconductor test and assembly plants in Japan. The company has also transferred ownership of two other facilities to J-Devices Corp.

The move made by Fujitsu is part of its ongoing migration to a "fab-lite" strategy, which was announced in 2009. Fujitsu also stated that the two companies aim to build a long term strategic partnership.

Formerly known as Nakaya Micro Devices, J-Devices is a joint venture that is owned in part by Amkor Technology Inc. and Toshiba Corp.

The transaction will be completed by the end of this year. All employees of the two plantslocated in the Miyagi and Aizu prefecturesare expected to be transferred to J-Devices, Fujitsu said. The company said it plans a staged transfer of the equipment from its test and assembly facility in the Kyushu region to an existing J-Devices facility in the same region.
