Keywords:QSC6270-Turbo? Machine-to-Machine Applications? Java ME Embedded 3.2?

Qualcomm Technologies and Oracle have announced their collaboration to bring Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 support to QTI's QSC6270-Turbo chipset, which utilises QTI's industry leading Gobi modem solution for 3G.

This collaboration will help accelerate the development and deployment of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) applications with embedded cellular connectivity. The combination of the Java platform with the QSC6270-Turbo, the chipset will offer a wide range of technical and business benefits to M2M software developers and systems integrators.

The focus of this collaboration is on M2M applications requiring embedded-to-enterprise communications developed for verticals like tracking, healthcare, industrial controls and other consumer M2M segments. Java allows application developers in these and other growing M2M segments to realise improved time-to-market by utilising an industry proven platform that can help to deliver industry leading solutions. Java's "write once, run anywhere" flexibility delivers code portability, increased developer productivity and reduces the overall cost of development on embedded devices.

Support for Java on the QSC6270-Turbo chipset will enable developers with little mobile development experience to write and execute Java applications directly on devices that incorporate a QSC6270-Turbo chipset, taking advantage of the various hardware interfaces and capabilities of the 3G modem. QTI's integrated System-on-Chip designs enabled with Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 will help eliminate the need for an external processor or micro controller, offering additional cost savings and enabling the cost effective integration of cellular capabilities into a range of devices and solutions.
