Microchip Technology Inc. has introduced a line of power-conversion controllers and what it boasts as its first family of power MOSFET devices. The pulse width modulation (PWM) controller and complementary family of Low-Figure of Merit (FOM) MOSFET products combine to support high-efficiency DC/DC power-conversion designs, covering range of consumer and industrial applications, stated the company.

The MCP19035 is a small, analogue-based PWM controller family with integrated synchronous MOSFET drivers that claim to offer outstanding transient performance. The MCP19035 devices operate from 4.5-30VDC range, has a 300kHz switching-frequency and offers a factory-adjustable dead-time setting, allowing designers to optimise the performance across a wide selection of MOSFET devices. The MCP19035 family, when combined with Microchip's MCP87xxx MOSFETs, or any low-FOM MOSFET, produces high-efficiency (>96 per cent) DC/DC power-conversion solutions.

The MCP87xxx family of high-speed MOSFETs offers very low FOMs and is packaged in industry-standard 5 x 6mm and 3.3 x 3.3mm PDFN packages. Releasing are the MCP87022, MCP87050 and MCP87055 devices, which offer on-state resistance of 2.2m?, 5.0m? and 5.5m?, respectively.

The MCP87xxx MOSFET family also complements Microchip's existing portfolio of SMPS-focused PIC MCU and dsPIC33 "GS" digital signal controllers. Microchip's MCP14700 synchronous MOSFET driver is ideally suited for driving high-speed, low-FOM MOSFETs. When driven by an MCU, the two form a flexible, high-performance power-conversion solution, added the company.

The MCP19035 300kHz Evaluation Board (part # ADM00434) for the MCP19035 family is available, via any Microchip sales representative and on microchipDIRECT. Complementing the MCP87xxx MOSFET family release is an Excel-based Loss Calculator with user guide that are also available.

The MCP19035 and MCP87xxx families are available for sampling and in volume production. The MCP19035 family is offered in a 3 x 3mm 10-pin DFN package. The MCP87022 and the MCP87050 are offered in a 5 x 6mm 8-pin PDFN packages and the MCP87055 is available in a 3.3 x 3.3mm 8-pin PDFN package.
