Lead screws target miniature mechatronic systems

Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions, a brand of Ametek Precision Motion Control, has rolled out a line of precision lead screw products. Its "Micro" Series lead screw assemblies are 2mm diameter screws with available standard leads ranging from 0.3-2mm per revolution and in a range of nut configurations made using self-lubricating acetal, noted the company.

The Micro Series allows for the miniaturisation of products, reduced power consumption and weight reduction without sacrificing performance or reliability. Kerk Brand Micro Series lead screws are available as stand-alone components or integrated into the high-performance Haydon can-stack linear actuators.

Manufactured of premium grade 303 stainless steel, Kerk Micro Series lead screw assemblies provide improved performance, long life and require no maintenance, boasted the firm. High-accuracy threads with superior uniformity deliver precise motion, and reduce noise and vibration, noted Haydon Kerk. An optional Kerkote TFE coating, a permanent dry lubricant, extends nut life while reducing friction and drive torque requirements.

In addition to the 2mm Micro Series lead screw product, Kerk precision lead screws also are available from 3-24mm and with leads ranging from 0.30-76.2mm linear travel per revolution. Lead screw nuts can be customised using Kerkite high-performance polymers and moulded into just about any shape imaginable, perfectly suited for application-specific requirements.
