E-band amps for high capacity backhaul apps

Richardson RFPD has announced a low noise amplifier and two medium power amplifiers (PAs) for E-band applications from United Monolithic Semiconductors S.A.S. (UMS). According to the company, the devices operate from 71-86GHz and are available in chip form with BCB layer protection, geared for next generation telecommunication applications such as high capacity backhaul.

The CHA2080-98F/00 low noise amplifier comes with a footprint of 3.35 x 1.12 x 0.07mm and features variable gain and integrates four stages. Additional key features include 3.5dB noise, 22dB gain, 12dB dynamic gain control and DC bias with Vd=3.5V @ Id=75mA.

The CHA3080-98F/00 is a three-stage monolithic medium PA and includes a power detector with a dynamic range of 20dB that integrates a directional coupler, a detection diode and a reference diode to be used in differential mode. Additional key features include 71-76GHz broadband performance, 16dB linear gain, DC bias with Vd=3.5V @ Id=280mA and size of 3.96 x 1.78 x 0.07mm.

The CHA3090-98F/00 is a similar PA, but operates at a higher frequency range. It features 81-86GHz broadband performance, 13dB linear gain, DC bias with Vd=3.5V @ Id=280mA, and size of 3.36 x 1.78 x 0.07mm.
