Samsung Thales, the aerospace and digital defence technologies arm of the South Korean electronics giant, has launched a development programme with Novelda for the vehicle-mounted land mine detectors based on the NVA6100 Nanoscale Impulse Radar system.

"The Novelda Impulse Radar is a complete CMOS radar system integrated on a single chip, an electromagnetic high precision sensor for human vital sign monitoring, personal security, environmental monitoring, industrial automation and other novel sensor applications," says Novelda's CMO Aage Kalsaeg.

In comparison to traditional technology, the NVA6100 has the ability to detect objects behind obstacles, coupled with increased speed and high sensitivity. It caters to sensor applications across a range of sectors including health monitoring (including stress and pulse monitoring), medical diagnosis (including heart beat monitoring and 3D RF-imaging), automotive and industrial (including distance and road obstacle detection), security surveillance (such as motion detection), energy automation and defence.
