Keywords:Toshiba? photocouplers? infrared LED?

Toshiba Corporation recently launched its latest photocouplers. The TLP2361" and TLP2161 combine 15Mbit/s high-speed communication with low power consumption.

The photocouplers employ Toshiba's original infrared LED. The LED's high output and reliability secures low input current operations and reduces threshold input current by approximately 54 per cent. This LED's stable output under high ambient temperature guarantees operation at up to 125C.

Fabricated with Bi-CMOS process, supply current per channel is lowered to 1mA (max.), which cuts total supply current by approximately 66 per cent for TLP2361, and approximately 60 per cent for TLP2161.

With a small SO6 package, the TLP2361 achieves clearances and creepage distance of 5mm and complies with the reinforced insulation class of overseas safety standard (EN60747-5-5). Using two circuits in SO8 package, the TLP2161 reduces mounting area by approximately 40per cent, contributing to downsizing of applications and reduction of PCB cost.
