133Mhz grade 1Gb 3.3V SPI NAND flash unveiled

ATO Solution has developed a 1Gb NAND Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) flash memory based on NAND flash cell structure with NOR SPI interface. It is the first product designed by ATO Solution's own patented SPI technology, the company stated.

The SPI NAND flash developed by ATO Solution boasts higher reliability than NAND flash and achieves higher performance than NOR flash. The device aims to address the density limitation and the disadvantages of the higher-priced NOR flash. Furthermore, it is expected to be an alternative SLC NAND flash memory, which can replace the NOR flash chip in application systems without any additional expense for using an ECC controller.

It can compete with NOR SPI through a compatible 8 pin WSON (8 x 6mm) type package. This small form factor offers space savings and simplifies designs.

The device has a 1bit error correction code (ECC) engine built in the same die. The spare cell area of NAND flash memory is kept to allow higher reliability and quality, and enable dual ECC operation. Its 133MHz (15pF) frequency is also touted by the firm as the fastest speed of NAND SPI in the world.

At the present, ATO Solution is planning to register its 1Gb SPI NAND flash with consumer chipset companies' reference design such as mobile baseband chipsets, DSPs and application processors.

It is likewise preparing for mass production in Korea, China, Asia, Europe and North America in applications that incude mobile phones, set-top boxes, black boxes and digital TV.
