According to the latest report from Frost & Sullivan, the global wireless test equipment market is growing rapidly as developments in the wireless communications industry, including increased smart device adoption, higher mobility, explosive mobile data traffic growth, LTE, as well as LTE-advanced deployments, gain momentum. The increasing use of smart devices, in particular, is changing the mix of network traffic from mostly voice to integrated voice, video and data, driving the need for solutions to test performance, capacity and a network's handling of integrated voice, video and data.

"Demand for wireless test equipment is on the rise because testing facilitates early-market delivery and aids the entire supply chain of component manufacturers, handset manufacturers, operators, and laboratories in getting through the R&D cycle quickly without compromising on quality," said Frost & Sullivan communications test & measurement program manager Olga Shapiro. "Furthermore, wireless test equipment enables service providers to not only comply with industry standards, but also roll out high-quality products and services that exceed customer expectations."

Notwithstanding this, several factors curb market development. For instance, the considerable rise in data rates has not translated into significant revenue for service providers, in turn affecting their investment in test equipment. The need to upgrade network infrastructure to newer technologies such as LTE in order to keep up with faster transmission demands further dips into the profits of service providers. This makes it all the more critical and challenging for test equipment manufacturers to ensure high performance and scalability among systems that collect information and provide the necessary metrics.

"Wireless test equipment vendors must maintain adequate support for existing technologies, while continuing to explore emerging technologies in order to ensure a positive quality of experience and service," added Shapiro. "Building long-term relationships with customers and understanding their changing requirements will further enable equipment suppliers to stay on top of technological innovation and provide test solutions that yield notable returns on investment."
