Printing process enables mass prod'n of solar cells

Roth & Rau B.V. in Eindhoven, a member of the Meyer Burger Group, has signed a contract to supply inkjet printers for printing mono crystalline high performance solar cells. With the PiXDRO ink jet printing technology from Roth & Rau B.V., Meyer Burger claims to be the only company in the world that offers a printing process suitable for the mass production of high efficiency solar cells in combination with electroplating.

The contract also includes wafer inspection systems from Hennecke Systems, another member of the Meyer Burger Group. The total order value is about $4 million. Delivery of the equipment to the customer's production site in Asia is scheduled for Q2 and 3Q14.

The PiXDRO JETx inkjet printing system can be used for a variety of applications in the solar and electronic industries. With its fine printing technology and high-precision alignment and contactless deposition capabilities, the PiXDRO JETx is planned for use in a 100MW production facility in Malaysia. The printing systems are capable of front and rear printing up to 900 wafers per hour.
