Millimetre wave modem IP supports 60GHz-80GHz

Xilinx has rolled out a millimetre wave modem IP core for small cell backhaul applications that require high throughput point-to-point and point-to-multi-point connections.

The Xilinx 256 QAM wave modem solution delivers a maximum data rate at 1.6Gbit/s and targets both 60GHz and 80GHz millimetre wave applications. It supports hitless and errorless adaptive modulation, analogue imperfection compensation, TDD and FDD multiplexing technologies with higher layer protocol interface, and granular channel bandwidths.

The wave modem has a scalable bandwidth support ranging from 20MHz to 250MHz and an optional 500MHz. The device also incorporates several IP configurations including a modem with RS FEC or LDPC FEC, CPRI for fronthaul or 10GbE interface for backhaul, and JESD204B for a new generation of converter devices. The low DSP latency makes this an ideal fit for wireless fronthaul applications with very stringent latency requirements.

The device is currently available for evaluation and is expected to be on the market by Q3 CY14.
