Kontron has boosted its platform design, adding support for the OpenStack technology. This marks a milestone in the company's foray into designing integrated SDI platform including systems for IoT where cloud services will be essential.

As a corporate sponsor of the OpenStack Foundation, Kontron will be integrating OpenStack solutions into its SYMKLOUD series cloud servers. Meanwhile, the company has already collaborated extensively with partner ISVs to enable them to work with OpenStack as a bare-metal installation of their cloud-aware applications. This includes the cloud provisioning of massively scalable content delivery applications for multi-screen subscriber services for cable TV operators, as well as m2m and IoT backend cloud solutions.

The goal is to ensure that cloud providers, along with mobile and cable operators, can maximise the high density design of the Symkloud hardware platform to easily scale their workloads as required, according to Benoit Robert, Strategy Director at the Communications Business Unit of Kontron.

"Creating multiple on-demand instances with OpenStack is truly seamless on Symkloud and offers customers the incredible flexibility to deploy services in public and private clouds," Robert added.

Kontron will conduct live demos using OpenStack during the Mobile World Congress next week.
