MediaTek has presented one of the two awaited 64bit LTE chipsets at the Mobile World Congress 2014. The MT6732 is equipped with the ARM Cortex-A53 processor and Mali-T760 GPU, delivering performance and graphics boost for the so-called "super-mid market."

The chip features multimedia capabilities that complement its ClearMotion and MiraVision technologies. It allows low-power 1080p, 30fps video playback and recoding, compatible with H.265 and legacy H.264 encoded media. Its 13MP camera image processor includes support for picture-in-picture, video-in-video, and video face beautifier applications.

The chip has an integrated 4G LTE modem that runs at speeds of up to 150 Mbit/s downlink and 50Mbit/s uplink. The 3G/DC-HSPA+ network hit speeds of up to 42Mb/s downlink and 11Mbit/s uplink. Its connectivity solutions incorporate dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

MediaTek chief marketing officer Johan Lodenius said that the chip is targeted to "put technology in the hands of everyone." As a midrange mobile processor, the chip is expected to be adopted by the mainstream market that considers price and quality equally. The MT6732 platform will be commercially available by Q3 of 2014, with devices expected by the end of the year.
