Power receiver chip conforms to Qi, PMA specifications

Integrated Device Technology has designed what it claims is the industry's first dual-mode wireless power receiver for developing mobile devices compatible with the latest versions of both Qi and PMA charging bases.

The IDTP9023 features compliance with both Wireless Power Consortium's (WPC) 1.1 Qi, and Power Matter Alliance's (PMA) 1.1 standards. The chip consists of a synchronous full-bridge rectifier, high-efficiency synchronous buck converter, and embedded microcontroller. This optimises power delivery while minimising application footprint, component count, and thermal dissipation.

An embedded microcontroller provides a range of control features and status indicators beyond the Qi and PMA specifications. The chip supports all WPC and PMA receiver coils, as well as proprietary and PCB-based coils for versatility in a range of applications including smartphones, tablets, sleeves, and other accessories.

The chip is integrated with flexible firmware and microcontroller programmability that tunes the coil drive circuitry. It provides a quick battery charge with any Qi- or PMA-compatible charging base. A Qi-only version, the IDTP9022, is available for applications not requiring dual-mode capability.

The IDTP9023 and IDTP9022 are offered for sampling to qualified customers, coming in a compact 3.9mmx4.1mm WLCSP package.
