Microchip Technology has integrated up to eight 24bit delta-sigma ADCs into its energy-measurement active front ends (AFEs) for multiple load power monitoring.

The MCP3914 contains eight ADCs while the MCP3913 has six. The former's two extra ADCs enable the monitoring of more sensors with one chip, lowering cost and size. Both have a programmable data rate of up to 125Ks/s with low-power modes, allowing designers to scale down for better power consumption. It also facilitates use of higher data rates for advanced signal analysis such as calculating harmonic content.

The AFEs feature high-accuracy signal acquisition with 94.5dB SINAD, -106.5dB THD and 112dB SFDR. A CRC-16 checksum and register-map lock increase the devices' robustness.

The company also introduced two new evaluation boards to aid in the development of energy systems using the AFEs. Both chips come in 40pin uQFN packages, the MCP3913 adds a 28pin SSOP package option.
