RDA Microelectronics has announced the volume production of its integrated GPS chip for wearables and Internet of Things.

The RDA8851GL integrates advanced RF designs, a base band signal processing engine, quad band RF transceiver, power management unit, Bluetooth and GPS receiver on a single 55nm chip. It features connectivity options for system scalability.

The chip is built with a small footprint, low power consumption and an expandable feature set. Its entire hardware model is, as how the company put it, the size of a postage stamp, befitting applications such as monitoring, remote control and positioning.

"Integrating GPS positioning with a fully mature GPRS modem further strengthens the diversification of location service characteristics and enhances the scope of GPS positioning information for mobile data applications," said Shuran Wei, CEO of RDA Microelectronics.
