Cooling plate boasts no pressure drop penalties

GCoreLab has released a liquid cold plate that harnesses the company's proprietary oblique fin technology to significantly increase the performance and reliability of power electronics.

Said to be a decade's worth of R&D effort, GCoreLab's oblique fin technology was first developed by University of Singapore Professor PS LEE. It features micro-/mini-channel heat sinks in the shape of oblique fin. Oblique apertures allow a re-entrance effect, where a small fraction of fluid is diverted from one channel to the adjacent.


GCoreLab's XtremeChill enables spot cooling and maintains uniform module temperature in a compact package.

The XtremeChill plate builds on the fin technology using pin or straight fin plates, which induce turbulent flow, ensuring even temperature spread. This facilitates better fluid mixture through a continuous interruption of the thermal boundary layer with no pressure drop penalties, as what the company claimed.

The plate fits most standard IGBT modules, available in 162mmx122mm and 62mmx122mm mounting options. It weighs 915g and has 0.025/25.4mm surface flatness, available at $390 apiece.
