dotLEDs feature the smallest profile fit for wearables
Keywords:LED? Plessey? GaN-on-Si?
The Plessey Company plc has rolled out what it claims is the smallest packaged LED, developed using its proprietary technology, MaGIC (manufactured on GaN-on-Si IC).
The company's proprietary MaGIC technology exploits the cost benefit of using standard Si substrates on which the GaN layer is grown, which was achieved with patented technology that solves the physical mismatch issues that result from growing gallium nitride on silicon.
The dotLED comes in the standard 1005 size handled by the common surface-mount machines used in high volume consumer electronics. With a 0.2mg weight and 0.2mm profile, it is designed for applications that demand low profile components like in wearable devices.
The PLW138003 produces a white collimated light up to 0.7Lm with a 130de viewing angle from a 5mA drive current.
A blue version, PLB138003, is available as an ultra-thin die measuring 200?mx200?mx75?m.
The company will extend its dotLED products to include colour variants and series in the larger 1608 footprint.
