Keywords:Apple? Samsung? patent?

The Apple-Samsung infringement case has spawned scores of pages of exhibits, among which the widely cited or insightful are presented here. The deliberation on all the materials and testimonies are expected to take place this week.

Much of the material in the case does not directly relate to the five patents Apple claims Samsung infringes in its smartphones and the two patents Samsung claims Apple infringes. Rather, they try to provide context on one of the most heated head-to-head battles in the fast-moving mobile market.

We start with two pages from one exhibit directly germane to one of the infringement issues in the case. Apple contends Samsung's side-by-side comparisons of a Samsung phone and the iPhone (below) are evidence the former infringes the technique on which Apple has a patent.

A fun factor

Apple submitted into evidence multiple reports from Samsung, some extending to 132 pages, that made detailed comparisons of its prototype smartphones to the iPhone. Most told designers to follow the iPhone example, some citing the "fun factor" of the interface.

Beat Apple

Samsung's U.S.-based mobile marketing group made beating Apple its top priority. In 2011 the Korean giant estimated Apple would overtake its installed base by 2013. However, in 2012 it said the smartphone battles were coming down to a "two-horse race."
