ST upgrades 8bit MCUs with 20MIPS processing

STMicroelectronics has launched an addition to its 8bit automotive-grade microcontroller family, showcasing devices with 20MIPS processing performance in compact packages.

Based on the company's 24MHz STM8A 8bit processor core, the STM8AF6223 and STM8AF6226 feature a mix of connectivity, timing, and analogue functions for space-constrained modules such as seat controllers, window lifters, HVAC controls or gateways. An extended temperature range qualifies the MCUs for under-the-hood applications.

The MCUs integrate an 8KB on-chip flash, 640B true data EEPROM that run up to 300kcycles, 1KB RAM, serial interfaces including LIN 2.1, and a 10bit ADC. Other features include clock security system, two watchdogs, and a memory-protection scheme.

The devices are AEC-Q100 qualified, and operate at temperatures up to 150C and keep running down to 3.0V in cranking conditions. They are available in compact packagesthe TSSOP20, which has seven ADC inputs, and six capture/compare channels; and the TQFP32, adding three complementary PWM outputs for driving BLDC motors.
