Measurement Computing Corp. has unveiled a series of high-speed counter/timer DAQ devices that support multiple counting modes including and include four PWM timers and eight individually-configurable digital I/O channels.

The USB-CTR series include a four-channel and eight-channel models, featuring high-speed pulse counting with a 48MHz maximum input frequency. The devices support an aggregate throughput rate of 8MB/s. They can be configured for any resolution up to 64bit, eliminating the need to cascade counters. Both devices provide the following data streaming rates for these common resolution settings: 16bit-4MHz, 32bit-2MHz, and 64bit-1MHz.

Each counter channel has a screw terminal connection point for counter input, counter output, and counter gate. Counter inputs can concurrently monitor time periods, frequencies, pulses, and other event-driven incremental occurrences directly from pulse-generators, limit switches, proximity switches, and magnetic pick-ups. Counter outputs can be used to control or transmit signals to external devices, and also to counter inputs, counter gates, or digital inputs. Counter gates, meanwhile, use input signals to clear a counter, change counter direction, or start/stop counting.

The devices support high-level input modes including totalize, period measurement, pulse-width measurement, and timing measurement. The timer output channels can operate continuously or for a specified pulse count, with duty cycle and period changeable on-the-fly. Counter and digital channels can also be scanned synchronously. Flexible edge, level, direction, and debounce settings allow the counters to better adapt to user signals.

The series includes software support for Visual Studio and Visual Studio.NET, DASYLab, and NI LabVIEW. The four-channel USB-CTR04 is priced at $359, while and the eight-channel USB-CTR08 is at $429.
