Real Intent, Inc. has upgraded its RTL linter and rule checker system to extend support for The MathWorks, Inc.'s platforms including MATLAB, Simulink, and HDL Coder interfacea move that promotes a safe and reliable implementation flow for digital synthesis tools used by ASIC and FPGA designers.

MATLAB is a high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualisation, and programming. The language, tools, and built-in math functions allows to explore multiple approaches and reach a solution faster than with spreadsheets or traditional programming languages, such as C/C++ or Java.

Simulink, on the other hand, is a block diagram environment, which supports simulation, automatic code generation, and continuous test and verification of embedded systems. It provides a graphical editor, customisable block libraries, and solvers for modelling and simulating dynamic systems. It is integrated with MATLAB, allowing the integration of MATLAB algorithms into models and export simulation results to MATLAB for further analysis.

The HDL Coder HDL Coder generates portable, synthesisable Verilog and VHDL code from MATLAB functions, Simulink models, and Stateflow charts. It provides a workflow advisor that automates the setup of files and commands for Ascent Lint. This tight integration enables engineers to verify that the RTL code generated using HDL Coder is compliant with coding conventions and industry standards.

Other key enhancements to the platform include: 24 new lint rules, multiple configuration file support providing hierarchical waiver management, report customisation to improve readability, and platform support for computers running the SUSE Linux Enterprise version 11 or later.

Real Intent staff technician engineer Srinivas Vaidyanathan talks about the Ascent Lint product, its market-leading performance and capacity, and several new features in the 2014 version.

The new release of Ascent Lint is scheduled for availability in June 2014. Pricing depends on product configuration.
