MediaTek is hitting it big at the Computex 2014, with the introduction of separate solutions aimed at addressing some of the industry's fastest growing markets including smart home, IoT, and wearables.

Two SoCs, the MT7688 and MT7681, target the smart home market segment. The former is Linux-based, supports 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity, and is claimed as the industry's lowest power consumption SoC of its kind. The latter has a small package size, and is designed for easy embedding into small and simple home appliances such as smart lighting, door locks and plugs.

LinkIt is a development platform built to accelerate the wearable and IoT markets. It integrates the company's Aster SoC, touted as the smallest wearable SoC on the market. The SoC is designed to enable the developer community to create a broad range of affordable wearable and IoT products and solutions for the midmarket.

The launch of LinkIt is a part of MediaTek's wider initiative for the developer community called MediaTek Labs, which will officially launch later this year.

MediaTek Labs is a worldwide ecosystem initiative for developers in support of device creation, application development, and services based around the company's offerings. It aims to accelerate the reality of the brand vision 'Everyday Genius'.

Leveraging its inclusive ecosystem, the Labs portal will be the central hub for the entire MediaTek offerings including software development kits, hardware development kits, technical documentation, as well as technical and business support to the device maker and application development community.

The MT7688 and MT7681 have both entered into mass production. Devices powered by these SoCs are expected to hit the market in the second half of the year.
