Radio tester generates RF signals up to 20MHz

Rohde & Schwarz has unveiled a touchscreen-enabled radio communications tester that can generate any test signal up to 20MHz bandwidth, as well as process high input power levels of up to 150W for radio systems that operate in the 100kHz to 3GHz range.

The CMA180 is based fully on digital signal processing and advanced computing technologies. An integrated arbitrary waveform generator for software implemented test signal generation enables engineers to play back nearly any type of signal, making the device ideal for testing transmitters and receivers.

For receiver tests, audio signals from the internal generators or from external sources can be modulated onto the RF carrier. The audio signals demodulated by the device under test are fed into the tester via analogue or digital inputs and then analysed. For transmitter tests, the tester demodulates the received signal and measures the demodulated audio signal and the RF signal.

The tester claims to be the world's first to allow users to generate additional signals with just a few mouse clicks, such as interfering signals for co-channel rejection measurements. Its large touchscreen and straightforward menu provide for especially simple and fast operation. Engineers can quickly reach all settings and easily perform measurements, where results are clearly displayed.
