Enhancing user experience involves satisfying the need to feel the key while pressing it. Aito BV revealed a software tool that streamlines the creation of such experience for software enhanced piezo (SEP) HapticTouch-based physical user interfaces. Product designers concerned with the operation and response of touch controls, and embedded engineers who implement the design may find the tool useful.

Aito's SEP HapticTouch technology is unique in that it brings the tactile feel to the switches without requiring additional actuators or mechanisms. The construction is simple: one piezo disc per switch. As explained on its website, discs are electrically connected through sensing circuitry and haptic booster circuitry to the control chip. Each switch can be independently controlled for both sensing and haptic feedback to provide highly designable, controlled and localized touch experience to the user's fingertip.

UX Design Studio then dramatically eases the adoption of touch controls by allowing the rapid evaluation of design concepts and the validation of ideas. The tool does this without needing to prototype early designs, even without detailed knowledge of the underlying technology. Later in the development cycle, it also provides a comprehensive capability for easily configuring the touch interface by adjusting the touch sensitivity and providing various tactile, audible, and visual feedback signals.

"The aim of UX Design Studio is to provide a simple and easy to use tool which removes any of the complex technical hurdles in implementing control panels using SEP technology", said Pauli Laitinen, Aito's CTO "It significantly reduces development time and cost, and truly enables the ultimate user experience."
