Apple made its first foray into the wearable computing market with the Apple Watch. The smartwatch was revealed on Tuesday, alongside two new iPhones and Apple's breakthrough mobile payment technology called Apple Pay.

Apple Watch's interface controller, called Digital Crown, features a rotary dial on the side of the device that allows navigation through the watch's screens, much like the reoriented click wheel in the older iPod models.

Apple Watch

Apple Watch is probably the company's biggest breakout product since the iPod.

The digital timepiece needs an iPhone to connect to WiFi and access GPS data. It also includes Siri and can turn heartbeats into physical vibrations that other Apple Watch users can feel. The device comes with Fitness and Workout apps.

The Apple Watch comes in stainless steel, aluminium and 18-karat gold, and offers 11 watch face designs.

A new iOS 8 API, the WatchKit, was also unveiled on Tuesday. Apple said it will enable developers to create new iOS apps or even just customised notifications for apps on Apple Watch.

Apple Watch is the company's first major product released under CEO Tim Cook. Three versions of the device C Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition C will hit stores next year, along with a premium line made of 18-karat gold. Prices start at $349.

Cook also presented two new iPhone models: iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The latest products in Apple's smartphone line feature bigger screen sizes and at least one resolution set. The iPhone 6 is the smaller of the two models, with its 4.7-inch screen and a resolution of 1334p x 750p at 326 ppi, which surpasses a 720p Retina HD display.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 6 Plus has a bigger 5.5-inch screen with 1,920p x 1,080p resolution at 401 ppi. This already qualifies as full 1,080p HD.
