7.4um pixel image sensor targets industrial imaging apps

ON Semiconductor has extended its line-up of high performance CCD image sensors with its latest device aimed at industrial imaging applications. The 8.6MP, APS-H optical format KAI-08670 image sensor promises to provide the critical imaging performance needed for the most demanding applications.

Intended for industrial inspection, intelligent traffic and surveillance markets, the KAI-08670 image sensor is the latest member of the TRUESENSE 7.4um interline transfer CCD family. The device claims to provide advanced imaging performance, including use of a high sensitivity 7.4um pixel, dynamic range of 70dB (extendable to 82dB in binned pixel operation), electronic shutter and 115dB of smear rejection. The family is also pin and package compatible with ON Semi�s 5.5um pixel family of CCD image sensors, allowing camera manufacturers to easily leverage existing camera designs to support the devices.

The KAI-08670 is available in monochrome, Bayer colour and TRUESENSE sparse colour filter pattern configurations, providing a full range of colour and sensitivity options, stated the company. Engineering grade devices are available, with full production planned by the end of the year. An evaluation kit is available that allows the imaging performance of the KAI-08670 to be quickly and easily examined in detail without the need to develop a full camera design, added On Semi.
