Sequans Communications S.A. has revealed that Universal Scientific Industrial (Shanghai) Co. Ltd, (USI), an electronics manufacturing company, is bringing to market an LTE module powered by Sequans' latest LTE chipset, Colibri, which is optimised for the design of devices for the Internet of Things.

The module comprises the Sequans' Colibri LTE chipset platform and all other elements necessary for a complete LTE modem system. Based on a Sequans' reference design, the module answers the needs of M2M and IoT device-makers for a simple, all-in-one, single-mode LTE chip solution for the design of affordable devices for numerous IoT applications.

At the heart of the module is Sequans' latest LTE chipset platform, Colibri that includes baseband and RF chips, an integrated network and application CPU running Sequans' carrier-proven LTE protocol stack, an IMS client, and a comprehensive software package for over-the-air device management and packet routing. The all-in-one module design then adds a complete dual-band RF front-end for bands 4 and 13, IoT friendly interfaces, LP-DDR SDRAM, embedded boot Flash and power management, all in a small 76-pin LGA package, 21.1 x 20 x 1.5mm.

The first Colibri-based module manufactured by USI supports LTE bands 4 and 13. Additional modules coming later will support a variety of band combinations to address opportunities in various markets around the world. The first carrier certification of the Colibri module is expected in Q4.
